Week Nineteen – the blockwork is finished and some gasworks are negotiated

The week starts where the previous week left off with the brickies continuing to put up walls. We meet and work out the amount of render that is required to give the walls a bit of texture.

There may have been a bit of swearing getting the scaffolding into place down the northern side but they got there eventually.

We needed to move the gas meter about 1.5 metres and we were a bit troubled by the four-figure sum to make it happen. Eventually a deal was struck where the price came down and combined with a bit of liquid currency, the start of the ditch for the sewer was also dug.

Week Eighteen – Things you can see through and things you can’t

Windows and blockwork arrive and are installation begins. Any window or door that needs to be in place before the blockwork can be done are installed. The 3 largest upstairs windows need a lifter to get to their final position and the other upstairs windows can wait.

Given the weight of double glazed windows some of the glass will be installed on-site. The carpenters are installing the windows and do some final stud framing before the brickwork starts.

The brickies spend most of the first day ensuring that the bricks will be laid up correctly with cuts kept to a minimum with the required expansion joints.

By the second day, we're getting some height and we have the discussion around the bagging of the finished blocks.

It’s also time to make selections for much of the kitchen appliances prior to the kitchen being built to ensure dimensions are correct.

Week Seventeen - take the week off and do some planning

There are some weeks in Adelaide where the best thing to do is find a tree and sit under it, this was one of those weeks.

Whilst there were a number of jobs planned for the week, not much happened due to the heat.
So if you're a little bit OCD you might spend the time getting the Sketchup model to match the work to date.

Week Sixteen – Walls are braced and the first fix plumbing is complete

Sometimes you have to look hard to see the small changes.

Discussion takes place at the site meeting about the height of the ceilings in the bike craft room. A bulkhead around 3 sides may be the solution.

Each wall is braced and the roof purlins are capped to give shape for the shallow bowed roof.

Some plastering is done while it is accessible and yes, it rains hard again.

Week Fifteen - Steeling time

It’s a short week due to the public holiday but as always, lists need to be made and checked off.

The carpenters continue their push upwards and the steel-work for all but the carport is completed.
